Greenwich dunes was once part of a barrier beach system that has gradually migrated inland. The shoreline is in constant flux, eroding and accumulating due to the natural forces of wind and wave. At least 35 rare floral species have been identified at Greenwich and is home to the Island's only endangered species, the piping plover along with other water fowl and rare birds. Greenwich Dunes, opened in 1999, is Canada's newest National Park. Boardwalks, beach access and interpretation centres will be available to the public so they may appreciate this unique Island treasure. |
